How can counselling help?

Life inevitably presents challenges, and at times these experiences can give rise to emotional or psychological pain. Such difficulties may be connected to family, work, personal circumstances, or relationships. While conversations with family and friends can sometimes provide comfort, they are not always sufficient. Many people turn to counselling when they feel the need for a private, confidential space in which to reflect and be heard by someone objective, impartial, and outside of their immediate circle.

In this safe and supportive environment, you are able to explore what may not be working in your life, or what is contributing to feelings of distress or dissatisfaction. The aim of our work together is to help you identify and understand the difficulties you are facing, while also uncovering your inner strengths and resources. Through this process, I support you in developing greater self-awareness and resilience, empowering you to move forward and work towards a more fulfilling and balanced life

How does
it work?

The initial appointment serves as a mutual assessment. Together, we will explore what has brought you to counselling, the challenges you are facing, the wider context surrounding them, and what you hope to gain from the process. I will then share my perspective on how I might support you, after which you can decide whether this approach feels right for you.

Establishing a sense of rapport and trust is essential to allow you to move toward a place where you feel more at ease, with a greater sense of clarity, contentment, and resilience.

Testimonials

“The safe and trusting relationship that was built allowed me to explore challenges at a steady pace and move forward with peace of mind. At the same time, I was coming to terms with the new and sometimes difficult news of my neurodiversity diagnosis. The support I received gave me the space to understand what this meant, reflect on my past, and begin shaping a more positive future. This experience showed me the real value of support grounded in trust, understanding, and relationship." — Viv M

"I first came to you feeling profoundly stuck and emotionally paralysed, especially in my marriage. What sets you apart is your unique ability to be both incisive and guiding. You don't just listen; you skilfully pinpoint the core patterns and blind spots that kept me trapped. Most importantly, you consistently pull the focus back to what I truly want for my own life.

Your approach isn't about providing easy answers, but about equipping me with the clarity and tools to find my own. You challenged me to shift from passively "thinking" about my problems to actively "overcoming" the internal barriers that held me back. This process made me realize that I have the power to take brave, initiative steps forward, one at a time.

If you are ready to do the work and need a guide who is honest, insightful, and focuses on your own agency, I cannot recommend Melen highly enough." — Y H

"I worked with Melen after making a big change in my life and was struggling with feelings of failure and feeling overwhelmed on what to do next and how to move forward. My regular sessions with Melen helped me address existing thought patterns which I had for decades and over time, work to challenge my thoughts and actions. I really appreciated the safe environment Melen created for me to discuss my challenges and thoughts, always without judgment. I am now able to live my life without feelings of anxiousness being a daily occurrence, and have the tools with me to address it if or when it does appear." — Sharan C
